A bomb explosion along the Gusau-Dansadau road in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State has claimed several lives and left others injured.
The explosion, believed to have been caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) reportedly planted by bandits, targeted travelers and residents in the area.
The incident, which occurred on a busy section of the road, has raised concerns about the evolving nature of insecurity in Zamfara.
Counterterrorism expert Zagazola Makama, in a post on his X handle on Wednesday, highlighted the grave implications of the attack.
Makama noted that this marks the second bomb explosion on the same route, indicating a dangerous shift in the strategies employed by bandits.
“Traditionally known for their activities such as kidnapping, cattle rustling, and armed attacks, the use of explosives introduces a new level of insecurity in the region,” Makama said.
