The Bayelsa State Police Command has initiated a full investigation following the discovery of a Bolt driver’s lifeless body at Samphino Junction in the Kpansia area of Yenagoa, the state capital. Passersby found the middle-aged man inside his vehicle on Friday morning and promptly alerted law enforcement, who secured the scene.
This tragic incident occurred less than a week after another fatal shooting nearby, where Daniel Ayama, a 27-year-old graduate of the Federal University, Otuoke, was killed by assailants less than a kilometre from the current crime scene.
Preliminary reports suggest the driver was shot at close range in what is suspected to be an assassination, as no items were reportedly stolen from the vehicle.
Bayelsa Police spokesman Musa Mohammed confirmed that forensic teams have been deployed and investigations are ongoing. “We are working to gather all necessary intelligence. Forensic teams have been deployed to the scene and we are also liaising with the Bolt company to retrieve trip data that may help in tracking down the culprits,” he said.
Members of the drivers’ union and other stakeholders have urged the police to expedite their efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.
