Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu has once again touched on Neymar’s world record move in the interview, and says there needed to be more honesty.
“Neymar? Officially, we learned he was leaving when he told us…at the end of July we saw things weren’t going well, but his father told us it was nothing,” he added to TV3.
“We believed his father’s word but there should have been more honesty, but we need to be self-criticism.”
“We believed them (Neymar and his advisers) too much,” Bartomeu added .
“When a player wants to leave, he must be honest, as Alexis (Sanchez), Pedro (Rodriguez) or Cesc (Fabregas) did. We will not hurt a player that is not happy.”
The Blaugrana chief also touched on captain Andres Iniesta’s future at the club.
“He will decide how long he wants to stay,” Bartomeu added.
“We want to him to stay with the club and have a special contract because he deserves to decide when he wants to leave.
“He is an inspiration for all and symbolises what we all want for the club.
He is playing well and helping the team, and I think he is closer to telling us ‘yes’.”
