On Saturday night, armed bandits launched a brutal attack on Waje village, located in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The violent raid resulted in the death of ten farmers and left three others seriously injured, according to official police reports.

Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the incident but clarified the casualty figures. “Yes, we are aware of the Waje attack by armed bandits, but only ten people were killed,” he stated. The three injured victims are currently receiving medical treatment at a local health facility.

However, a resident of Waje village, Malam Abdullahi, offered a more grim account of the attack. He said, “The armed bandits stormed the village at night, wielding high-profile guns and upon arrival began shooting indiscriminately, killing fifteen farmers and injuring at least three persons.” Abdullahi described how the attackers arrived on motorcycles, ambushing farmers as they were leaving their farms after a day’s work.

In response to the tragedy, Kebbi State Deputy Governor Umar Tafida visited the affected community to offer condolences and support. Speaking on behalf of Governor Nasir Idris, Tafida condemned the attack, calling it a “dastardly act” that “has no place in our society.” He also announced a donation of N24 million from the state government to assist the victims’ families.
