Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and other prominent figures of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convened in Abuja on Monday for a high-level strategic meeting, Okay.ng reports.

The gathering included influential party stalwarts such as David Mark, former Senate President; Sule Lamido, ex-Governor of Jigawa; Uche Secondus, former PDP National Chairman; Babangida Aliyu, former Governor of Niger; Sam Egwu, former Governor of Ebonyi; Aminu Tambuwal, former Governor of Sokoto; and Liyel Imoke, former Governor of Cross River.

Sources familiar with the agenda told Okay.ng that the meeting is part of a series of consultations designed to set the tone for Wednesday’s planned coalition talks involving leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and other major opposition figures.

The opposition camp has been intensifying its efforts since the beginning of the year to forge a united political alliance capable of mounting a credible challenge to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election.

Beyond PDP leaders, the broader coalition talks have also drawn in key national figures such as Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential flagbearer; Nasir el-Rufai, former Governor of Kaduna; and Rotimi Amaechi, former Minister of Transportation.

The evolving opposition alliance is being closely watched amid growing calls for a formidable alternative to the APC-led federal government.
