The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has warned that a strike is imminent if the Federal Government fails to implement the agreements reached within the next two weeks. ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, stated that despite the recent meeting with the Education Minister, none of the agreed-upon demands have been met.

The union’s demands include the implementation of the 2009 re-negotiated agreements, payment of accumulated academic allowances, and the revitalization fund for upgrading universities. Additionally, ASUU is seeking the exit of university salary payments from the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) and the halt of proliferation of universities without adequate funding.

Osodeke emphasized that the next two weeks will determine the union’s next course of action, hinting at a potential strike if the government fails to meet their demands. The union’s decision will affect the academic calendar and the entire university community, making it essential for the government to address the lingering issues promptly.
