Arsenal’s 4-0 Rout of Ipswich Delays Liverpool’s Premier League Glory

Arsenal delivered a commanding 4–0 victory over a 10-man Ipswich Town side on Sunday, effectively preventing Liverpool from sealing the Premier League title later in the day. The result means the title race remains alive, with the Gunners maintaining pressure at the top of the table.

Meanwhile, Chelsea edged Fulham 2–1 in a crucial west London derby to move into the Champions League qualification zone, while Manchester United faltered at home with a 1–0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers, just days after their dramatic Europa League win against Lyon.

Liverpool required both an Arsenal loss and a win over Leicester City to clinch what would have been their 20th top-flight crown. Arsenal’s dominant performance now postpones any celebration for the Merseyside club.

Ipswich’s hopes of surviving the drop appear all but over, as they remain 15 points from safety with five fixtures left and a significantly inferior goal difference compared to West Ham United.

Arsenal, still riding high from their historic win against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu — which secured them a place in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals for the first time in 15 years — wasted no time asserting control. Manager Mikel Arteta made only three adjustments to the starting eleven that triumphed midweek in Spain.

Leandro Trossard, brought back into the lineup, gave Arsenal the lead with a close-range finish — his eighth goal of the campaign. The advantage was doubled moments later when Bukayo Saka’s delivery was flicked on by Mikel Merino into Gabriel Martinelli’s path, who calmly converted.

Ipswich’s woes deepened after Leif Davis was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Saka, who fortunately avoided injury. The England winger missed two clear opportunities to increase the lead before being substituted early in the second half as a precaution, following a recent return from a long-term hamstring injury.

Trossard netted his second of the match with a clean strike from a set-piece routine, before 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri added a fourth with a deflected shot to seal the win.
