A three-man panel of the Election Petition Appeal, currently convened in Lagos, has affirmed the re-election of Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the governor and Kehinde Obafemi Hamzat as the deputy governor of Lagos State.
The unanimous decision by the panel echoes the earlier ruling of the Lagos State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, which validated Sanwo-Olu’s victory on September 25.
The panel’s affirmation came as it dismissed an appeal filed by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Olajide Adeniran, popularly known as Jandor.
The dismissal was based on the grounds that the appeal lacked merit.
The Election Petition Appeal Panel, in its judgment, noted that the appellants failed to substantiate their allegations of forgery and non-qualification against Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat.
The panel highlighted that despite being pre-election matters, the appellants failed to provide compelling evidence to support their claims.
“Even though they were all pre-election matters, the appellants (PDP and Adeniran) still failed to prove them. The appellants came empty-handed and left empty-handed. They merely enjoyed their day in court. Their petition is dismissed,” the panel declared.
