An Allied Air Cargo aircraft with registration number 5N-JRT suffered a tyre burst on Wednesday, causing it to skid off Runway 22 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

The incident, which occurred at approximately 10:05 am, temporarily shut down the runway, resulting in significant flight delays.

The aircraft had five passengers on board, all of whom were safely evacuated and taken to the airport’s clinic for medical attention, according to a statement by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

FAAN spokesperson Obiageli Orah confirmed that there were no injuries reported from the incident.

“The Airport Emergency response team is on the scene along with accident investigators. The runway is being cleared and is expected to reopen for operations as soon as possible,” the statement read.

Authorities are working to remove the affected aircraft from the runway to restore normal operations. Meanwhile, several departures were delayed, causing disruptions for travelers at the airport.

FAAN expressed gratitude to the aviation community and the public for their patience and understanding during the incident.
