The Akwa Ibom State Government has dismissed reports that it renamed the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium following the defection of former governor Akpabio from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Startegy, Charles Udoh, the government described the report as the “handiwork of some unscrupulous elements.”

He stated further that the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel is “laden with a high level of integrity and would not descend to such lowly heights of renaming the stadium.”

Udoh restated that the government’s commitment to continue its single-minded pursuit of the avowed goal of people-oriented governance and sustainable development of the state.
