Ebere Nzeworji, an aide to former Imo State Governor and senator, Rochas Okorocha, has dismissed rumours circulating about Okorocha’s death, assuring the public that the former senator is “hale and hearty.”
The clarification comes after a viral message falsely claimed that Okorocha had passed away in a London hospital.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday morning, Nzeworji explained that the fake news had been spreading on social media since the early evening of Wednesday, November 6. “A fake viral message has circulated on social media…alleging that Okorocha had passed away in a London hospital,” Nzeworji stated.
Nzeworji pointed out that Okorocha was seen at his Unity House office in Garki, Abuja, around the same time the rumour started, and noted that the former governor had recently returned from Owerri, Imo State.
The statement highlighted Okorocha’s recent activities, including his attendance at the funeral of the late elder statesman Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu on November 1 and his hosting of Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu and other representatives at his Spibat residence in Owerri.
“One can now begin to wonder about the motives of those behind this fake news,” Nzeworji remarked. He described Okorocha as a “patriotic Nigerian” who has served at both state and national levels, building meaningful connections across Nigeria and abroad.
“The former governor has never wished anyone dead and is always cheerful and caring about the wellbeing of others.”
Nzeworji called on Nigerians and the international community to disregard the false reports, affirming that Senator Rochas Okorocha remains in good health.
