Not less than 35 people including five army personnel and a local hunter were killed by a bomb explosion on Thursday morning around Mararaba-Mubi area of Adamawa State.

According to Vanguard, a Yola resident told journalists that a joint team of the military and local hunters on every-day patrol of the region following their effective recapture of the Mubi town when the bomb fixed by the insurgents detonated killing 35 people promptly.

The eyewitness said the place of the blast was a crowded area where people returning to the area after the recapture of Mubi gather to do one business or the other.

He added that the explosives might have been fixed there overnight and the bomb went off while people were gathering there in the morning.

The eyewitness, speaking with the newsmen over phone, mentioned that the army has altered the venue of the blast to a check point, since there is a heavy presence of people at the spot most of the times.

“My house is some meters from the scene of the incident. I stood outside my compound watching the suburb and all of a sudden, I heard a loud bang which shook the entire surroundings,” he said.

“The few people that were returning to the area started fleeing and the area was immediately cordoned off by the military,”he continued.

The bomb blast provoked the army authorities to announce the area “a no go place” and advised returning villagers and passersby to be extra cautious along the routes.

However, hundreds of local hunters are keeping watch with the army in the liberated areas of Adamawa State. The vigilantes have sworn to ensure that the sect members are completely chased out or eliminated.

The Nigerian military has recaptured Mubi town in Adamawa State, northern Nigeria from the Boko Haram insurgents on November, 13.

In a desperate bid to end the Boko Haram insurgency currently ravaging the North eastern part of the country, the Adamawa State Government has revealed plans to train over 10,000 local hunters who would combat the sect.
