Access Holdings Plc Names Bolaji Agbede as Acting GCEO After Herbert Wigwe’s Death

Access Holdings Plc has appointed Ms. Bolaji Agbede as the Acting Group Chief Executive Officer.

The announcement comes in response to the unexpected death of the former Group Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Herbert Wigwe.

The Board of Directors of Access Holdings Plc made the announcement on February 12, 2024, following a statement released on February 11, 2024. Ms. Agbede, the most senior founding Executive Director in charge of Business Support within the company, will assume the role subject to the approval of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

With a career spanning nearly three decades, Ms. Agbede brings a wealth of experience in banking and business consultancy services. She began her career in 1992 at Guaranty Trust Bank and later became the Chief Executive Officer at JKG Limited in 2003. Her association with Access Bank Plc began in 2003, where she held various managerial positions and eventually became the Bank’s Head, Group Human Resources between 2010 and 2022.

Ms. Agbede’s journey with Access Holdings Plc started as the founding Executive Director, Business Support, where she played a crucial role in integrating business units and transforming the company’s culture.

A highly accomplished professional, Ms. Agbede holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Lagos (1990) and a Master of Business Administration Degree from Cranfield University, UK, in 2002. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management UK and the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria.

Her extensive professional development includes participation in renowned leadership programs such as the High-Performance Leadership Programme organized by IMD and the Strategic Talent Management Programme organized by the London Business School.
