In a move to promote sustainability and bolster local economic growth, Nestlé Nigeria has launched a new eco-friendly packaging for its popular cereal brand, Golden Morn.

The launch, announced at the “Rebirth of the King of Breakfast” event in Lagos on Monday, marks a significant step in the company’s environmental and economic commitments.

Omofasa Orhiunu, Nestlé’s Category Manager for Dairy, emphasized that the new packaging reflects the company’s dedication to local sourcing and environmental responsibility. “This is not just a new look,” Orhiunu stated. “It is a testament to our commitment to supporting Nigerian farmers and reducing our environmental footprint.”

The redesigned packaging underscores Nestlé’s strategy of sourcing ingredients locally, ensuring not only quality and freshness but also stimulating the Nigerian economy through enhanced local engagement. Boladale Odunlami, the firm’s Commercial Manager, reiterated this commitment, adding, “As we unveil our new packaging, we reaffirm our commitment to nourishing Nigeria and supporting local communities.”

Nestlé has also increased its support for Nigerian farmers through various initiatives, according to Victoria Uwadoka, the Corporate Communications, Public Affairs, and Sustainability Lead at Nestlé Nigeria.

She highlighted that Nestlé provides technical assistance and seed funding to help farmers improve their livelihoods, reinforcing the company’s commitment to developing value chains that increase income and improve the quality of life for local farmers.

“Our approach emphasizes developing value chains that increase farmers’ incomes and enhance their quality of life,” Uwadoka said. She noted that Nestlé’s strategy is built around three pillars—individuals, communities, and the planet—to create shared value in Nigeria.

Additionally, Nestlé’s eco-friendly packaging aligns with the company’s global objectives to reduce environmental impact and advance a circular economy. Uwadoka mentioned that Nestlé collaborates with the Enterprise Development Centre of Pan-Atlantic University to empower young farmers through an agripreneur program, aimed at nurturing innovative, next-generation farmers.
