The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has announced that local government elections will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024. This announcement was made by the Chairman of OGSIEC, Mr. Babatunde Osibodu, in a statement issued on Tuesday.

According to Osibodu, guidelines for the conduct of the elections and a stakeholders meeting will be released on Thursday, August 8, 2024. Political party campaigns are set to begin the following day, on Friday, August 9.

The statement also specified that party primaries are scheduled to take place between Monday, August 26, and Monday, September 9, 2024.

This announcement follows a clarification made last month by Mr. Kayode Akinmade, the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to Governor Dapo Abiodun, who debunked circulating social media reports claiming the elections would occur on October 26, 2024. The tenure of the previously elected local government officials concluded about a week ago.
