Police Get Seven New AIGs as PSC Promotes 4,542 Officers

The Police Service Commission has promoted seven Commissioners of Police to Assistant Inspectors-General of Police.

It also elevated 4, 535 senior officers to the next rank between May and June 2016.

A statement by the Head, Press and Public Relations, PSC, Ikechukwu Ani, on Monday in Abuja, said six Deputy Commissioners of Police were promoted to CPs, 20 Assistant Commissioners of Police were elevated to DCPs, and eight Chief Superintendents of Police to ACPs.

Others are, 107 Superintendents to CSPs; 1,431 Deputy Superintendents to Superintendents; 1,252 Assistant Superintendents to DSPs and 1,711 Inspectors to ASPs.

Out of this number, the commission approved special promotion for 16 officers “based on exceptional performance and dedication to duty on the recommendation of the Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase.”

Also two officers were promoted for acts of gallantry while 188 others were placed on acting appointment on their next rank.

Meanwhile, the IG has decorated four out of the seven newly promoted AIGs, including, Tili Abubakar, Opadokun John, Ogunbayode David and Dorothy Gimba.

Arase urged them to work harder wherever they were posted to, saying their new position required a lot of responsibility.

The IG who also inaugurated a police officers’ mess with 35 suites on Monday in Abuja, stated that the welfare of men of the Nigeria police was his top priority.
