Nigerians are committed to making the world a better place with their ingenuity.

Nigeria is often accused of borrowing and improving on other countries’ technology, inventions, dances, food etc. Although we often see room for improvement in other people’s inventions, we also do some major inventing ourselves.

Our world famous Shoki  was invented by street boys in Agege, Lagos. This dance was popularized by Lil Kesh and Orezi’s Shoki songs.

Mohammed Bah Abbah is credited with inventing this amazing and cheap way of refrigerating perishable items. The Zeer is made up of a small pot inside a bigger pot with the prevailing vacuum filled with moist sand and covered with a cloth. As the sand dries,

The Zeer is made up of a small pot inside a bigger pot with the prevailing vacuum filled with moist sand and covered with a cloth. As the sand dries, it carries away the heat from the smaller pot.

Ingenious right?!

Mohammed Abbah is the recipient of a $75,000 Rolex Award for Enterprise which he used to produce and distribute his invention in 11 Northern states in Nigeria.
