The leadership of the Labour Party on Wednesday unveiled 1,234 members of its Presidential Campaign Council, with Assistant Inspector General of Police (retd.), Mohammed Zarewa, as chairman.

While Dr Doyin Okupe, the former spokesperson of ex-President Goodluck, was named Director-General of the LP Campaign Council, Clement Ojukwu and Yunusa Tanko were named the LP’s Secretary and Spokesperson of the PCC, respectively.

The PCC, which was unveiled at a press conference in Abuja, has different directorates and each headed by a Director.

Okupe described the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party as expired commodities with defective structures.

He said if there was a strict pre-qualification process, both the APC and PDP’s candidates would have been disqualified from the start of the presidential race.

Okupe said, “I am not talking here about the dubious nature of educational records, nor even allegations of foreign court-certified criminal narcotic records, nor any basis of poor health, and not even of falsified or advanced age, but I refer to the fundamental parameters of competence and character, where none of these other known candidates measures up, in any way, to Peter Obi and Dr Yusuf Datti-Ahmed.”

In a similar vein, he also called on the security agencies to stand tall against all nefarious political practices and vile tendencies that may want to sabotage the peace and progressive march of the country.

This is as the LP’s PCC Director-General stated that the 2023 general elections would be the biggest test for the Independent National Electoral Commission to show fairness, impartiality, fearlessness as a patriotic umpire.

Meanwhile, the party’s chairman in Nasarawa State, Alexander Emmanuel, during a press conference in Lafia on Wednesday, disclosed the party’s plans to flag off its presidential campaign in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State on October 18, 2022.

Emmanuel explained, “The flag-off is going to be massive because we are expecting people from across the North Central Zone and other parts of the country.

“I am urging everyone who has been yearning for a better Nigeria to come out in their numbers to welcome them to Lafia next week on Tuesday.”
