Zulum Appoints Ex-Minister Tijani as SSG, Reappoints Marte as Chief of Staff

The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved the appointment of Nigeria’s former Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Malam Bukar Tijani, as the new Secretary to the Borno State Government (SSG).

Governor Zulum also reappointed Professor Isa Hussaini Marte as his Chief of Staff.

The appointments were announced on Wednesday by the Governor’s spokesman, Malam Isa Gusau.

Tijani, 62, was Nigeria’s Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development from July 2011 to September 2013. He also served as the Assistant Secretary-General and Assistant Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

The new SSG hails from Dikwa local government area of Borno State and holds a Master’s degree in Tropical Agricultural Development from the University of Reading, UK. He has over 30 years of experience in the agricultural sector.

On his part, Professor Isa Hussaini Marte was first appointed Chief of Staff by Governor Zulum on August 17, 2020. The professor of pharmacology previously served as Commissioner for Higher Education in Borno State.

Marte holds a PhD in Pharmacology from King’s College London and a Master’s degree in Pharmacology from Chelsea College, University of London.

He has had an extensive academic career and was appointed Dean of Pharmacy at the University of Maiduguri in 2010.
