Zenith Bank Plc’s Chief Financial Officer, Dr. Mukhtar Adam, has been honored with the prestigious title of ‘Chief Financial Officer of the Year’ at the 11th All Africa Business Leaders Awards (AABLA) in partnership with CNBC Africa.

The award ceremony, which took place on June 23, 2023, at the King’s Ballroom in Sun City, South Africa, recognized Dr. Mukhtar’s outstanding contributions in the field of finance.

Expressing his gratitude, Dr. Mukhtar extended his thanks to the judges and organizers of the AABLA awards for recognizing his accomplishments.

He dedicated the accolade to the Founder and Chairman of Zenith Bank Plc, Jim Ovia, CFR, and expressed his appreciation to the management of Zenith Bank, his colleagues in Nigeria, and the bank’s subsidiaries for fostering a positive work environment. Additionally, he thanked the bank’s customers for their support.

The All Africa Business Leaders Awards (AABLA), in partnership with CNBC Africa, represents the most prominent business awards event in Africa, honoring remarkable achievements in African business.

Throughout its history, the AABLA has celebrated perseverance, success, innovation, and accountability in African business leadership.

Dr. Mukhtar Adam boasts an impressive career as a finance professional, accumulating over two decades of experience. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Finance from Leeds Beckett University, an M.Sc. in Finance – Financial Sector Management from the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies, an MBA in Finance from the University of Leicester, and a B.Ed. in Social Sciences specializing in Economics and Management from the University of Cape Coast in Ghana.

Furthermore, Dr. Mukhtar holds a Diploma in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) from the esteemed Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Islamic Banking and Insurance from the Institute of Islamic Banking and Insurance in the UK.

As part of his professional development, Dr. Mukhtar Adam has participated in executive programs at renowned institutions such as Wharton Business School, Harvard Business School, INSEAD Business School, the London School of Economics and Political Science, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ghana (ICAG), and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN).

Before assuming his current position as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Zenith Bank Plc, Dr. Mukhtar Adam served as the bank’s Deputy CFO, leading the Financial Reporting, Tax Management, and Strategic Planning Groups while supervising the entire financial reporting function of the Zenith Group.

Prior to joining Zenith Bank in 2007, he gained valuable experience as a Senior Consultant in the Financial Services Group of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).

Dr. Mukhtar Adam’s extensive expertise encompasses various financial domains, including financial sector management, policy analysis, financial reporting and analysis, tax management, audit management, strategy development and execution, enterprise risk management, credit risk management, financial advisory, capacity building, and training.

He is also recognized for his research contributions, with numerous professional and academic publications to his name.
