About General Yakubu Gowon

  • Military and Political Career: Gowon became Nigeria’s Head of State in 1966, leading the nation through the Nigerian Civil War (1967-1970). His leadership emphasized national unity, encapsulated in his “no victor, no vanquished” speech, promoting reconciliation post-war.
  • Post-Military Contributions: After his tenure, Gowon furthered his education, earning a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Warwick. He has remained active in national affairs, notably founding the “Nigeria Prays” initiative, advocating for peace and unity.
