  • Military and Political Career: Gowon became Nigeria’s Head of State in 1966, leading the nation through the Nigerian Civil War (1967-1970). His leadership emphasized national unity, encapsulated in his “no victor, no vanquished” speech, promoting reconciliation post-war.
