A large assembly of women demonstrators are convening at the strategic locations in Port Harcourt today to formally express their gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his declaration of Emergency Rule in Rivers State.

They lauded the President’s intervention as a vital step towards restoring peace and stability to a region recently marred by significant political unrest and instability, which has deeply impacted the lives and livelihoods of ordinary citizens across the state.

However, their demonstration also carried a strong demand for accountability regarding the recent demolition of the Rivers State House of Assembly. The women vehemently condemned this act as a direct assault on the democratic foundations of the state and a clear violation of the rule of law. They insisted on a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the demolition and demanded that Governor Fubara and all individuals involved be held fully responsible for their actions.

The women presented an official petition to representatives at the State Secretariat, clearly outlining their key demands. These demands included the immediate initiation of an independent judicial inquiry into the assembly’s destruction, the suspension of any implicated individuals pending the investigation’s outcome, a firm commitment to upholding the rule of law and safeguarding democratic institutions, and a concrete plan for the reconstruction of the demolished State Assembly building.
