A woman in Lagos has been arrested by officers of the Anti-Vandalism Intelligence Unit set up by the Inspector General of Police, over allegation of pipeline vandalism in the Isheri Olofin area of the state.

According to reports, the 59-year-old Mrs Folayinka Ayinde was picked up in her home located at KML 1, LASU Road, Iyana Odo bus stop, where she had allegedly being diverting petroleum products to sell for the past three years.

The woman was reportedly apprehended after a tip-off to security agents and is currently being interrogated.

But in her response, Ayinde vehemently denied involvement in the illegal act, asserting that she had earlier alerted officials of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation that some vandals were using her property to siphon petroleum products.

She added that the officials did not do anything to stop the act, and so she should not be blamed for it.

However, she admitted making a mistake in not informing the police about her finding but stated that some NNPC officials, whom she could not identify, had assured her that she did not have a problem after she informed them.

Ayinde added that some NNPC officials used to come to her property for inspection and she could not tell whether they were genuine officials of the agency or not.
