Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has described the planned nationwide protests scheduled for August 1, 2024, as a political ploy to gain popularity. Wike stated that the administration has only been in office for one year and is working to address the country’s deep-seated problems, inherited from previous governments.

The minister made these comments while inspecting the Apo-Karshi Road project, which was first awarded in 2011. He emphasized that the country’s challenges cannot be solved overnight and urged citizens to be patient. Wike accused “political jobbers” of masterminding the protests to gain traction ahead of the 2027 elections.

The planned protests, tagged #TinubuMustGo and #Revolution2024, are a response to the economic hardships faced by Nigerians. However, Wike believes that the administration’s efforts will take time to yield results and should not be rushed.
