The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has explained the decision to shut down the national grid, faulting the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for claims that NLC’s monitoring and compliance team attacked TCN workers. The NLC stated that the shutdown was a result of the indefinite nationwide strike that began on Monday, protesting the Federal Government’s N60,000 minimum wage proposal.

The TCN had earlier announced the complete shutdown of Nigeria’s power grid, attributing it to the labour unions’ strike. However, the NLC denied attacking TCN workers and asserted that Nigerian workers would not be intimidated by falsehoods from TCN or any government agency.

The NLC president, Joe Ajaero, emphasized that the strike was a rightful decision to withdraw services, and the organization would not be deterred by attempts to discredit their actions.
