The Deputy president of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has said that he plays politics of development because of his desire for the speedy development of human resources, towns, and villages.

He made the disclosure at the weekend while playing host to some of his constituents from Ezeagu Local Government Area, led by the State’s Commissioner for Youths and Sports in Enugu State, Mr Charles Ndukwe, who were in his Enugu residence to pay him a thank you visit.

Ekweremadu noted that human resources development remained pivotal to the overall development of any society, adding that any politician who does not think along this line is not worthy of his calling.

“If I am asked to summarise my type of politics, I would say that I play politics of development because that is the whole essence of being in politics. Development, in the sense that I would like to see human resources development; we have to develop our villages and we have to put infrastructure like water, road and electricity in place; we have to also develop our economy; any politician that is not thinking along this line is not worthy of his calling,” the Deputy President of the Senate declared.

According to him, Public Service is about service to the people, explaining that Politicians must always strive to leave behind legacies that must stand the test of time.

While paying glowing tribute to the people of Enugu West for maintaining unity and brotherhood in the District, Ekweremadu recalled that in 2003 when he started representing the District, Enugu West was known to be speaking with discordant voices, with pervading mutual suspicion. He was however quick to add that, today, cohesion and unity has been achieved.

He said: “In 2003, when I started representing our district, part of our problem was that we were uncoordinated. We were speaking with different voices. There was disconnect and mutual suspicion and I said that what we needed to do was to have cohesion in the District so that we can always speak like one family, and I believe we have achieved that.”

Earlier, the Enugu State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr Charles Ndukwe, expressed appreciation to the Deputy President of the Senate, for the massive empowerment of the people of the District, especially in the area of human resource development and rural infrastructure. He also seized the occasion to express gratitude to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for giving him the opportunity to serve.
