Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, announced on Sunday evening that Ramadan fasting will begin on Monday (Today).

Okay Nigeria understands that the monarch speaking at his place stated that the sighting of new moon of Ramadan have been verified and authenticated from various locations in the country.

In his words:

“My fellow Muslim brothers and sisters, in accordance with Shariah, the Islamic law, we have the pleasure to announce that today Sunday the 29th day of Sha’aban 1440AH, which is equivalent to 5th May, 2019, marks the end of Sha’aban 1440AH.

“Reliable reports of moon sighting were received from Muslim leaders and organisations across the country, which were duly verified and authenticated by us, the states and national moon sighting committees.

“Consequently, tomorrow Monday the 6th day of May 2019 becomes the first day of Ramadan 1440AH insha Allah.

“We therefore call on all the Muslim Ummah in the country to commence fasting accordingly.”

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari upon announcement of the sighting of the new moon called for the continued peace, progress and prosperity of the country.
