It is yet to be uhuru for ex Rivers state governor, Rotimi Amaechi, over his confirmation as a minister of the federal republic of Nigeria.

Senators of the Peoples Democratic Party are plotting a major ambush to stop his confirmation.

A highly placed member of the PDP caucus in the Senate said the controversy surrounding the screening of the nominee was far from over.

“One is screening, the other one is approval, before confirmation. He still has three more hurdles to cross; we have not even debated the report yet. When we debate it, we will know where the opinion will swing.

“When you get to the shore of the ocean, you will know how to cross it. Have you not seen us screen people and reject them? It has happened many times before, it can happen again.

“If the ruling party pushes us to the wall, we may have to call for a division instead of the voice vote in which case, every Senator will stand up and answer his father’s name by telling Nigerians where he or she stands on the matter.”

A Senator from the South-West, also said it was too early for the ruling APC to celebrate because the report of the Senator Samuel Anyanwu-led Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, is still pending.

According to a member of the Senate Ethics Committee, the committee recommended a stay of action on the confirmation hearing.
