We Will Do Everything In Our Powers To Win Rivers, Akwa-Ibom Elections – Oyegun

The National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie- Oyegun, has said the party will do everything within its powers to win the gov­ernorship seats in Rivers and Akwa-Ibom states.

Oyegun argued, how­ever, that APC has more mathematical chances of winning in Akwa Ibom than Rivers.

He noted that APC’s suc­cesses at the 2015 general elections have changed the political dynamics in the South-South, specifically in Rivers State.

Oyegun spoke when a delegation of National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) and Pro-democracy groups in the United Kingdom, led by Chief John Filani, visited him at the party’s secretar­iat in Abuja. He expressed confidence in the party’s chances in the Akwa-Ibom governorship rerun.

“With the appointment of former Rivers gover­nor, Rotimi Amaechi and Minister for Niger-Delta Affairs, Pastor Usani Usani from Cross River, all from the South-South, the com­bination of these forces is creating a new dynamics in Rivers as against the forces that forced us out in the first place which was by sheer brute force. This is no longer applicable, neither in Rivers, or Akwa Ibom.”

In his comment on the Court of Appeal affirming the judgment of the Rivers governorship election tri­bunal on Wednesday, Oye­gun said: “With respect to Rivers and Akwa-Ibom, I want to tell you that we are strongly determined and there is hardly any doubt…”
