Newly-appointed Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr has declared that he will make the move to ensure that former captain Vincent Enyeama comes out of self-imposed international retirement to once again wear the national team colours.

Newly-appointed Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr has declared that he will make the move to ensure that former captain Vincent Enyeama comes out of self-imposed international retirement to once again wear the national team colours.

The German coach revealed that at the point of signing his contract, he asked officials of the Nigerian Football Federation why they had not made any move to bring Enyeama back from retirement.

“I asked about Enyeama when I signed because I know his qualities,” Rohr said in Uyo on Thurday as he prepared for his first game in charge, Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Tanzania.

“I also spoke with the goalkeepers’ coach Alloy Agu and he spoke highly of him. I’ve called and spoken with Enyeama since my resumption but nothing is settled yet. I will see him after the Tanzania game because I saw him play in France and he’s the kind of player we need to help us move forward.”

Rohr also revealed that first-choice goalkeeper Carl Ikeme got delayed to treat a small injury but is still expected to arrive in the country later on Thursday evening. He however refused to speak on whether the England-based goalkeeper will get the starting nod ahead of Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Emmanuel Daniel who are already in camp.

“Carl will come in today (Thursday) but the coaches will look at him to determine if he’s fit to play or not because he’s not trained for three days now. Luckily we have very capable hands on ground,” the 63-year old former coach of Burkina Faso said.
