WAEC Withholds 14,756 Candidates’ Results Over Exam Malpractice

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has withheld the results of a total of 14,756 candidates that took part in the 2017 October/November West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

This was made known by the Head of WAEC National Office, Olu Adenipekun, while announcing the result of the October/November examination.

Olanipekun said the 14,756 candidates whose results were withheld represent 11.07 percent of the total number of 133, 223 candidates who sat for the examination.

He said: “The results of 14,756 candidates, representing 11.07 percent of the total candidature for the examination are being withheld in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractice.

“The cases are being investigated and reports of the investigations will be presented to the appropriate committee of the council in due course for consideration. The committee’s decisions will be communicated to the affected candidates.”

Olanipekun revealed that 34,664 candidates, representing 26.01 percent, obtained credits in five subjects including Mathematics and English Language.

“The percentage of candidates in this category in the WASSCE for private candidates in 2015 and 2016 was 28.59 percent and 38.50 percent, respectively,” he added.
