Bayer Leverkusen Managing Director, Simon Rolfes, has confirmed that Nigerian striker Victor Boniface will not be leaving for Al Nassr, despite reports of an imminent move to the Saudi club.

Boniface was on the brink of sealing a big-money switch to Al Nassr, with Leverkusen reportedly reaching an agreement with the Saudi Pro League side. The Super Eagles forward had also agreed on personal terms with Stefano Pioli’s team.

However, Al Nassr pulled out of the deal and instead opted to sign Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran as their preferred attacking reinforcement.

Reacting to the collapsed transfer, Rolfes expressed delight that Boniface will remain at Leverkusen for now.

“There have been talks, but we are happy that he will be training with us today. I assume that he will stay,” Rolfes said.

“He feels comfortable here, his attitude towards the club is unchanged.”
