In the wake of the 2025 UTME results, which saw an alarming 1.5 million candidates scoring below 200 marks, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has brought in IT specialists and educational assessment authorities to conduct a thorough probe into alleged technical problems during the examination.

JAMB spokesperson Dr. Fabian Benjamin disclosed that the board is accelerating its annual system-wide review due to a surge in complaints from certain states. The review covers the entire UTME process, from registration through to result publication.

“To assist in this process, we have engaged experts from the Computer Professionals Association of Nigeria, chief external examiners who lead tertiary institutions, the Educational Assessment and Research Network in Africa, measurement experts, and vice chancellors,” Benjamin said.

Education advocate Alex Onyia, CEO of Educare, announced that over 8,300 students have formally complained about the glitches, threatening legal action. Onyia stated, “There is ample evidence to prove that JAMB’s system was inefficient, thereby causing serious harm to these students’ mental health.” He further demanded that JAMB provide detailed mark sheets and a mechanism for students to challenge their results.

JAMB emphasized that the complaints are not widespread but localized and assured that all candidates will be given fair opportunities. The board reiterated its policy of rescheduling exams for candidates affected by verified technical issues.
