UPDATE: 60 Killed in Multiple Bomb Blasts in Maiduguri

Bomb explosion in six different places within Maiduguri, the Borno state capital has claimed the lives of over 60 people, residents of Ajilari Cross ward where the explosion occurred told newsmen in Maiduguri.

“I was close by the scene of the multiple blasts, but God (Allah) saved my life as many were feared dead and injured. I saw many shattered bodies of human beings at the scene before I run away for my dear life”. Babagana said.)

According to residents, the explosion which occurred at a mosque, viewing centre, check point majalisa, and two other locations also killed two soldiers and a police officer.

Ajilari cross is an outskirt of Maiduguri which has witnessed series of Boko Haram attacks including bombings in recent past.

The explosions suspected to have been masterminded by suicide bombers occurred simultaneously at about 7:38pm, while the last one took place at about 8pm which has forced many residents to flee into main city for safety.

Mallam Ali Babagana, a lucky survivor based in Ajilari told our Correspondent on the phone that the incident occurred at a popular telecommunication service point where many people gather to buy/sake GSM recharge cards and other petty businesses.

Another Usman Tijjani told our Correspondent that he counted four simultaneous explosions suspected to have been carried out by some male and female suicide bombers that sneaked into the town from Sambisa forest.

“Already, we have started packing out of Ajilari and now looking for a safer place into the main town of Maiduguri. Many dead bodies were scattered all over the scene of the blasts as we seek for an escape route to Gomari Airport,” he said.

In another development, some suspected members of Boko Haram sect ambushed an operational vehicles of security operatives along Maiduguri- Dikwa- Gamboru Ngala road on Saturday.
