Union Bank has come forward to claim ownership of $2.8m cash intercepted by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.

okay.ng recalls that the operatives of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) announced the interception of $2.8m cash from Ighoh Augustine and Ezekwe Emmanuel who were workers of Bankers Warehouse.

They were arrested at the departure lounge of the airport on Thursday night while about to board an Arik Air flight to Lagos.

Now, Union Bank have claimed ownership of the intercepted $2.8m and also denied any wrongdoing, saying the practice was standard in the banking industry and its contractors were licenced by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

In a string of tweets on Friday night, Union Bank criticised the EFCC for being too hasty at disclosing the development to the public, “prior to the completion” of investigation.
