UNIJOS Appoints Prof. Sabastian Seddi Maimako As VC

The Governing Council of the University of Jos (UNIJOS), has approved the appointment of Prof. Sabastian Seddi Maimako as the new Vice-Chancellor of the university.

This is contained in a statement issued on Friday in Jos by Mr Abdullahi Abdullahi, Principal Assistant Registrar, Information and Publications.

According to the statement, the appointment followed the council’s consideration of the recommendations of its Selection Board at its special meeting held on Friday, April 22, 2016.

The new VC would assume office on June 23, 2016, after the expiration of the tenure of the current VC, Prof Hayward Mafuyai, on June 22.

The appointment is for a single term of five years.

Until his appointment, Maimako was the Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, University of Jos.

According to the statement,”a Professor of Accounting and Finance, Maimako has held several administrative positions in the university

He was former Deputy Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, Deputy Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Acting Head, Department of Management Sciences, all in the University of Jos.

“A 1987 graduate of Management Studies from the University of Jos, Professor Maimako, 54, took up appointment with University of Jos in 1989 as a Graduate Assistant.

“He was promoted to the rank of Professor in 2010 and appointed Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences on April 1, 2015.

“He obtained a Masters Degree in Business Administration in 1992 and bagged a PhD Degree in Management in 2006.”

The statement added that the new VC authored and collaborated in the publication of many academic works especially in the field of accounting and finance. (NAN)
