The United Nations has announced a $6 million allocation from the Nigeria Humanitarian Fund to support victims of the devastating floods in Borno State.

This timely intervention comes after the collapse of the Alau Dam on September 10, which displaced hundreds of thousands of people from their homes.

According to Stephane Dujarric, UN spokesperson, the organization is working closely with donors to secure additional funding.

The World Food Programme (WFP) has also set up soup kitchens in three camps – Teachers’ Village, Asheikh, and Yerwa, to provide nutritious meals to 50,000 people who have lost their homes.

The UN’s food agency requires $147.9 million to support food-insecure individuals in Nigeria’s northeast over the next six months. Recovery efforts will take time, and additional resources are needed to save lives and respond to the crisis.
