British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has resigned as leader of the Conservative Party following the Labour Party’s decisive victory in the UK general election. Sunak accepted responsibility for the loss, saying “I am sorry” and promising to step down once a Tory leadership race begins.

The Labour Party, led by Keir Starmer, secured a landslide victory, winning 410 seats and gaining a parliamentary majority. Starmer hailed the result as a clear mandate for change, saying “You have changed Britain… a weight has been lifted, a burden finally removed from the shoulders of this great nation, and now we can look forward again.”

The election outcome marks a significant change in British politics, ending 14 years of Conservative rule. Sunak’s resignation paves the way for Starmer to become the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
