U.S. President Donald Trump has slammed Elon Musk over the launch of his new political movement, the ‘America Party’, saying the billionaire has gone completely “off the rails” and accusing him of contributing to political chaos.
Musk unveiled the party on Saturday, following a poll he conducted on X, where he asked if Americans wanted a new political party. A day later, he declared the America Party officially formed, calling it a push to “give you back your freedom.”
The announcement marked a clear political break from Trump, whom Musk once advised before their relationship soured over a controversial domestic policy bill.
In a post shared late Sunday, Trump responded sharply to the announcement.
“The one thing Third Parties are good for is the creation of Complete and Total DISRUPTION & CHAOS, and we have enough of that with the Radical Left Democrats, who have lost their confidence and their minds!” he wrote.
He added, “Republicans, on the other hand, are a smooth running machine, that just passed the biggest Bill of its kind in the History of our Country.”
Trump said he was saddened to watch Musk go completely “off the rails”, describing him as “essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks.”
The president also reiterated his claim that Musk’s opposition to the bill was due to its elimination of the electric vehicle (EV) mandate.
He further revealed that Musk had once asked for a close friend to be appointed to head NASA, but he turned down the request after learning that the friend was a “blue blooded Democrat, who had never contributed to a Republican before.”
In a response on Monday, Musk said the America Party was necessary to fight what he described as the “Republican/Democrat uniparty.”
