On May 14, 2024, Landyn Ferris, a 16-year-old student at Trenton High School, was found unresponsive in a sensory room designed to assist special needs students. Despite efforts to save him, the tragedy ended with the loss of his life.

Landyn was a Grade 10 student living with Dravet Syndrome, a severe form of epilepsy that can cause frequent and prolonged seizures. His condition required constant monitoring, especially during sleep, which was known to trigger his seizures.

Circumstances of the Death

Landyn was left alone to sleep in a sensory room, which was separate from the main classroom and soundproof when the door was closed. It is reported that the door to the room was closed, making it impossible to hear if Landyn was in distress.

The Hastings Prince Edward District School Board acknowledged the emergency response at the school and expressed condolences. They have initiated a comprehensive review of procedures and processes.

Legal Actions
