Bundesliga new boys Fortuna Düsseldorf have completed the signing of VfB Stuttgart midfielder Matthias Zimmermann on a free transfer.

The 26-year-old signed a contract at the Esprit Arena until 2020.

Zimmermann had been with Stuttgart since 2015 and worked his way up through the reserves to make his first-team debut in 2016.

The midfielder enjoyed 32 outings with Die Roten, scoring one goal along the way but he also suffered a cruciate ligament tear last term that kept him out of action for most of the campaign.

He was instrumental in helping the club return to the Bundesliga in the 2016-17 season and leaves Stuttgart with great memories and a desire to succeed in his new surroundings.
