Tragic Building Collapse in Ibadan: Ten Bodies Recovered, Seven Rescued

Ten bodies have been recovered from the rubble of a collapsed storey building at Jegede, in the Olunloyo area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, trapping many residents under the debris.

According to the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Yemi Akinyinka, the agency received a distress call around 2 a.m. from residents, alerting them to the collapse.

“May I inform you that Oyo State Fire Services Agency received a distress call at around 2 a.m. this morning at Jegede, Olunloyo area, Ibadan. Ten persons have been recovered from the debris of the collapsed building, while seven persons were rescued alive. Rescue operation is still going on,” Akinyinka stated.

The Oyo State Police Command also confirmed the development, ensuring security at the scene to prevent any disturbances and to protect the residents in the area.

“Adequate security has currently been emplaced in the area to prevent hoodlums from taking over the incident scene and as well protect the lives and property of other residents within the jurisdiction,” the police stated.

The police further noted that an investigation is underway to determine the possible cause of the tragic collapse.
