Tragic Boat Accident in Zamfara State Leaves 41 Dead

A devastating boat accident has claimed the lives of 41 people in Gummi town, located in the Gummi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Okay.ng reports.

The tragedy occurred on Saturday when a boat carrying over 50 passengers capsized shortly after departing from the shore.

Local authorities confirmed that 12 passengers were rescued alive, while the remaining 41 drowned in the incident.

Suleiman Gummi, the lawmaker representing Gummi-Bukkuyum Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, expressed profound sorrow over the accident. In a statement released on Sunday, he extended his condolences to the families of the victims.

“I received with rude shock the tragic news of a canoe capsizing accident in Gummi,” he said. “It’s indeed a very unfortunate and sad incident, but as people of faith, we have to submit to the will of Allah.”

He added:

“We pray that Allah grants eternal rest to the departed souls, gives the bereaved families the fortitude to bear this loss, and grants a speedy recovery to the survivors who are traumatized by it.”
