At least 10 children were injured in Kidandan village, Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State, following an explosion on Saturday. The children were reportedly playing with an object they discovered in a nearby bush when the incident occurred.

The village head, Alhaji Abubakar Ruka, confirmed the incident, revealing that the children were rushed to Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital and Shika Hospital in Zaria for treatment. Although there were no reported casualties, the victims are currently receiving medical attention.

Alhaji Abubakar Ruka recounted, “The incident happened today (Saturday) when the children were playing with an object they found near the bush. The object suddenly exploded on them. 10 of them were injured, and no deaths, but they were taken to the hospital for treatment. Right now, I’m compiling their names.”

Simultaneously, bandits struck at Kuriga village along the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari highway, killing a school principal, Idris Abu Sufyan, and abducting his wife and child on Thursday night. The assailants reportedly stormed the village, shot the principal dead, and took his wife and son to an undisclosed location.

Mansir Hassan, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed both incidents. Regarding the explosion, Hassan stated that the children had picked up an object in a nearby bush, and while playing with it, the object exploded, injuring nine individuals. In response to the abduction and killing at Kuriga village, he assured that security agencies, not just the police, were actively working to rescue the abducted wife and son while apprehending the culprits.
