President Bola Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to addressing Nigeria’s power challenges during a session in Ibadan on Friday, represented by the Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu.

He expressed determination to implement comprehensive strategies aimed at providing consistent and affordable electricity to Nigerians and bolstering the country’s economic industry.

Tinubu emphasized, “My agenda to deliver 24-hour electricity for Nigerians remains steadfast. Our nation has endured significant energy poverty, and our goal is to rectify this issue.”

The Minister highlighted past efforts to resolve issues within the power sector, acknowledging the inadequacy of these measures in solving the multifaceted challenges.

He outlined specific strategies, including closing the meter gap, implementing robust legislation against power theft and vandalism, and encouraging electricity distribution companies to enhance infrastructure.

Tinubu’s plan involves a holistic approach, leveraging renewable energy sources like solar power in the northern region, small hydro plants in the South West and Middle Belt, and exploring wind energy to complement existing power sources across various regions.

The Minister stressed the necessity of diversifying Nigeria’s energy mix to overcome energy poverty, assuring that accessible and consistent power supply for households and businesses is the government’s primary focus.

The session also featured insights from agro-allied expert Oluyemisi Iranloye, advocating for policies supporting smallholder farmers in the agricultural sector.
