President Bola Tinubu has expressed profound sorrow over the demise of Chief Edwin Clark, the esteemed former Federal Commissioner for Information and prominent leader of the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF). In a heartfelt tribute, President Tinubu lauded Chief Clark as a courageous figure who consistently championed his beliefs and stood unwaveringly against injustice.

Chief Edwin Clark, who passed away at the age of 97, was born on May 25, 1927, in Kiagbodo, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State. His extensive career in public service spanned several decades, during which he held various positions, including roles as a councillor and as a member of both state and federal cabinets. Beyond his governmental duties, Chief Clark was a fervent advocate for resource control, as well as economic and environmental justice in the Niger Delta region.

In an official statement released by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu reflected on Chief Clark’s monumental impact on Nigeria’s political landscape. He described the late statesman as “a towering figure whose influence was felt across Nigeria’s political firmament for nearly six decades.” The President emphasized Chief Clark’s unwavering commitment to his principles, noting that he was “never afraid to stand alone in the face of injustice.”

President Tinubu further highlighted Chief Clark’s dedication to national unity and his efforts to foster collaboration among diverse groups within Nigeria. “Pa Clark, a lawyer and educationist, believed in a united Nigeria, and until his last breath, he never stopped reaching out to people from different parts of the country to work together to preserve national unity based on justice and equity,” the President remarked.

The President also acknowledged Chief Clark’s formidable presence in the political arena, stating, “As an astute politician, his political opponents never doubted his words’ weight, confidence, and conviction when he spoke.” He recognized Chief Clark as a patriot whose contributions significantly advanced the rights of the Niger Delta people and promoted the ideals of unity in diversity and true federalism.

In his message of condolence, President Tinubu extended his sympathies to the Clark family, the Ijaw nation, the people of the Niger Delta, and the government of Delta State. He prayed for divine comfort for Chief Clark’s family, friends, and all those affected by this significant loss.
