Many people have different opinions about sex during pregnancy.

While some think sex is no longer needed once the woman gets pregnant, there are those who even go as far as recommending regular sex.

No matter where you stand, women who are pregnant or have been pregnant before will tell you that their sex drive remains, and even peaks, at that period.

Well, here are 3 things you should know:

  1. Sex is safe during pregnancy. All that talk about poking the baby in the face is a huge lie. In fact Doctors say sperm is rich in hormones called prostaglandins, which can actually stimulate the uterus to contract. This means that it is even recommended to have sex, especially when the due date is past or very near. Only women diagnosed withplacenta previa, a condition in which the placenta is covering your cervix, you, too, should abstain from sex.

  2. Sex positions that are not physically impossible are game. You don’t have to remain in the missionary position because you are pregnant. Lying on your belly won’t crush the baby, so doggystyle; reverse cowgirl, lotus, etc. are all okay if you can handle it.

  3. Sex-appetite may fall. Yes, sometimes women lose appetite for sex when pregnant, especially in the third trimester, because they’re so physically bulky and tired. Also, the release of the hormone prolactin may reduce libido. Some women are also ashamed of their body which is changing shape.

You must know also that you have to be careful not to pick up sexually transmitted infection during your pregnancy.

If you get gonorrhea or chlamydia your baby could pick up the bacteria as it passes through the birth canal.

That could lead to blindness.
