Nigerian music star Adedamola Adefolahan, popularly known as Fireboy DML, has shared how his love for body art has strained his relationship with his father.
Okay.ng reports that the 29-year-old singer, during a recent appearance on the 90s Baby Show, revealed that his tattoos deeply upset his dad, to the point that he hides them whenever his father visits.
“One thing that I would do that can break my dad’s heart? I think I already did—my tattoos,” Fireboy said.
“Whenever he comes to visit me, I’m always on jalabiya, fully covered. Because tattoos, they break his heart every time he sees them.”
While his father appears to tolerate his piercings, the award-winning artiste disclosed that the tattoos remain a major source of disapproval.
“My dad doesn’t have a problem with my piercing but these tattoos? He will never forgive me for these things,” he added.
Despite the family friction, Fireboy maintained that getting tattoos was a personal expression, not just a byproduct of fame or music stardom.
“Even if I had ended up as a banker, I would still have had tattoos. It is not even about being an artist for me, I’m just that kind person. I see it as an art.
“Because sometimes, I want to be shirtless and still look like I am dressed up. I want to wear a singlet and step into a place and still have a presence. That is what tattoos are to me.”
Known for hit songs like Peru, Vibration, and Bandana, Fireboy DML has become a standout voice in Afrobeats. His openness about personal struggles and creative identity continues to resonate with fans across the world.
