Nigerian music icon David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has offered a fresh perspective on the long-standing debate surrounding Afrobeats’ so-called ‘Big 3’ — himself, Wizkid, and Burna Boy.

During a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club, which gained traction online on Tuesday, the “Unavailable” singer emphasized that the genre has evolved beyond the dominance of the three megastars. He suggested that the focus should no longer be on rivalry, but rather on unity and the broader growth of Afrobeats.

“I don’t have a personal relationship with them. I did at some point,” Davido shared candidly. “But the culture is so big now — the conversation has moved past just the Big 3. That’s just the honest truth.”

Davido went on to highlight the emergence of a new wave of talent making waves globally. “There’s Rema, Ayra Starr — so many artistes that are carrying the flag. It shouldn’t just be about us anymore. I think we all now understand that it’s bigger than just the three of us. We’re all willing to support whatever helps the culture grow.”

When asked about the possibility of a collaboration among the trio, the singer didn’t dismiss the idea entirely, though he acknowledged that external influences may be hindering such a project.

“It’s not impossible,” Davido said. “But there are people around us who probably wouldn’t want it to happen. Some benefit from us not being on good terms. Still, there have been times when we’ve all been cool.”
