Tecno W1 is a budget smartphone which may be considered both an upgrade and downgrade of the Tecno W2 in certain regards – forget the non-chronological name. It interestingly comes with a newer Android version, but has smaller screen size.

Tecno W1 Smartphone

Build and Screen

There is nothing out of the ordinary about the Tecno W1 in terms of appearance. This shouldn’t be surprising really given its budget status. The body is made of plastic with the display looking trapped in the middle of thick black boundary. The screen measures just 4 inches diagonally and has a WVGA resolution of 800 x 480 pixels.

Camera and Storage

The Tecno W1 appears to offer similar camera combo as the W2. You will find a 2MP camera with flash on the rear. The front facing camera is said to feature flash as well. You should have no problem taking decent picture in lowlight conditions. But with a pair of snappers like this one, it is unlikely this phone will be a favourite for selfie addicts.

Like its bigger 4.5-inch brother, the Tecno W1 offers onboard storage of 8 GB. You will be able to expand this by another 32 GB using a microSD card.

Performance and OS

The Tecno W1 smartphone should deliver a level of performance satisfactory to most basic users. It features a quad-core MediaTek processor whose speed maxes at 1.3 GHz. This is just what you can expect on budget device like this one.

But the 1 GB of RAM on offer should get things moving along well. Although you get the usual promise of seamless multitasking from the maker, it pays not to expect too much in terms of performance.

The main selling point of the Tecno W1 is its operating system. It runs on Android 7.0 Nougat software. This is pretty impressive for a phone that sells at this price point. What one would usually expect on similar offering is Android Lollipop, or even KitKat.

Other Specifications and Features

The juicer has a capacity of 1800 mAh, which is an aspect where the phone fails to measure up to the Tecno W1. The battery life is rated at up to two days on a charge. You get the usual connectivity options, including Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with Wi-Fi Direct and Hotspot functionality.

Pricing and Availability

Tecno W1 is available in Nigeria and Kenya. You can buy the device at leading online stores in the countries. Tecno W1 price in Nigeria ranges from 16,500 Naira to 25,000 Naira. The Tecno W1 Price in Kenya starts at around 4,899 KSh.
